The intention of the exhibition seeks to engage youths through placemaking and promote awareness of environmental sustainability with the usage of recycled paper tubes as the main building material.

While the exhibition will be showcased as an assemblage of individual personalities, the image of the exhibition is projected as a collective whole.

The tubes we will be using are all recycled, and while the UROP team will be procuring more recycled tubes in the future from various sources, these are the current ones we have:

The material team have explored ways to make the tubes waterproof and fire resistant. Based on their experiments of submerging the paper tube into a bucket of water for 24 hours, it remained dry.

Fireproofing the tubes also enabled it to pass the fire code standards.

Below are some ideas the UROP team has proposed for the installation of the paper tubes:

Along with a team of 4, we will be one of the 8 teams embarking on the project together with the UROP team. We will be given a space of 2m by 2m to create a interactive space with paper tubes. We will posting updates on the design but currently we are exploring an idea of having a fireplace hearth with a seating and coffee table installation. This way, the lighting team can then explore the lighting capabilities of the 'fire' using LED.

Stay tuned for future updates!
